Bright, perfectly nestled in the valleys of North East Victoria is an easy location for visitors from all around Australia and overseas visitors to find their way to our colourful town. With a rich history of mining there is plenty to learn with information plaques scattered along many of our local walks and an array of information provided in the Bright Library.

If it’s not so much the history rather the scenery or adventure that you are interested there are numerous walking tracks up through the mountains creating magical atmospheres and views that go on for miles. Depending on the weather it’s also worth seeing the scenery from the sky with adventure activities available such asparagliding or microlight flights.With plenty  more adventure activities including kayaking, horse riding and rock climbing Bright is the ideal destination for all.

The Ovens River is a great place for all, whether you’re fishing, swimming, canoeing or just relaxing on the shady banks. With quite a number of walking tracks along the Ovens River and Morses Creek you are sure to take in the beautiful scenery some way or another.

With the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail at our door step cycling plays a large part in Bright’s personality.With many cycling events held through out the year Bright is a popular cycling destination. If you’re not so much into competing, why not take a leisurely ride along the Rail Trail to visit some of our many cafes, wineries and farms.

Bright is home to the ever so popular ‘Bright Autumn Festival’ and ‘Bright Spring Festival’. Visitors from all destinations come to visit to see the magnificent autumn colours and the blossoming spring flowers.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains and National Parks, Bright is an all year destination. From swimming and camping at Lake Catani in the Summer to skiing and snowboarding at Mt Hotham in winter. Mt Buffalo National Park and The Alpine National Park are open to visitors all year round.



Bright is located situated approximately 3.5 hours’ drive from Melbourne and about 7 hours from Sydney. Looking for some good local food and wine on the way? Why not turn off the highway on to the Snow Road and head towards Milawa Gourmet Region. With Wineries, Olive groves, bakeries and the cheese factory you’re sure to find something to fill you up after the long drive!

V-line provides a service from Bright through to Melbourne via Wangaratta. NSW Train Link service from Wangaratta will also get you through to Sydney.
